Sing-A-Long with Pandora
Sing-A-Long with Pandora
Figma Prototype Link: Sing-A-Long Pandora "Quick Fix"
Problem:
What is a mobile app you use that has frustrated you in a specific way (or you wish could be made even better in a specific way)? How much would the user experience improve if the app were enhanced in this specific way?
Project duration:
In this project segment, I set out to flex my ideation muscles within a compact one-week timeframe. The challenge was clear: generate a plethora of ideas and meticulously sketch out one to demonstrate the depth of my creative prowess.
The app I chose
The app:
Pandora is a music-streaming app. Open the app, select an artist or genre of music and Pandora tailors a specialized “radio” based on the users thumbs up and down selections.
How I use it:
I use Pandora daily, for hours at a time. During work, while working out, cooking, driving and even while showering.
Opportunity to be better
The problem / missed opportunity
When listening to a song, to view lyrics, if provided, the user has to click on the song’s name or artist’s name, which takes the user to the artist page. If lyrics are available, the user only sees the first 4 lines, and the user has to click on “See all lyrics” to see the full lyrics. If a user is seeking lyrics, they typically want to see more than the first few lines.
Pain points and missed opportunities
Pain point
A user shouldn’t have to navigate away from a song to see lyrics the app is providing.
Pain point
I believe each song should reflect lyrics or a link to lyrics. To navigate to an artist’s homepage and there be no lyrics present, is a waste of time and forces a user to go out of the app to accomplish the goal.
Missed opportunity
I think it would make it a joyful experience to be able to sing along to each song with ease.
Missed opportunity
The app could serve dual functions and act as a mobile karaoke, if lyrics were easily present.
Opportunity to be impactful
This could make a difference
A lot of people enjoy music and use Pandora to fuel themselves through the day. The app enhances the user experience with each use, recommending and introducing new music daily. Best of all its accessible to most, being free to use with options to subscribe for enhanced features.
What if the lyrics started scrolling on screen ,as soon as the song starts to play?
What if a popup asked “would you like to see the lyrics” allowing me to select yes and it starts to auto scroll lyrics on screen, with no interruption to song play?
What if Pandora provided links to the lyrics, for those songs the app doesn’t provide them for?
The idea I went with…
What if a popup asked me to sing-a-long and if I chose to, it would auto scroll lyrics on the screen, with no interruption to song play?
This is an easy way for users to have quick access to lyrics without leaving the screen. It is simple, solves the problem identified, and can be useful for anyone using the app.

Benefits
Time
The popup sing-a-long feature saves the user time from searching for lyrics that are two screens, past the main screen you’re on.
Dual Function
The sing-a-long feature allows the user to use the app like a mobile karaoke on-the-go.
The “first pass”
Impact
This simple enhancement is a time-saver and turns the app into a dual-functioning tool, adding a karaoke-adjacent feature. Whether learning new words to a catchy tune or preparing to be a super fan at a future concert, users can benefit from easily accessing lyrics without leaving the screen.
